one step: water break

Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go.

Mark 11:1-6

The One Step Daily Devotional is intended to provide just one step each day for your journey with God. Every journey requires water breaks. Here is a water break for you.

Have you ever wondered if you are making a difference? Have you ever thought to yourself, “what have I done with my life?” When we don’t know how to answer these questions or questions like them, we can become quite discouraged.

There were some in the time of Jesus that did something so seemingly insignificant, it can be easy to miss the reality of the weight of what they did… or didn’t do.

In Mark 11:1-6 we read, “and they let them go.” This seemingly insignificant act of passivity echoes through eternity! According to Matthew 21:4-5 tells us,

This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,

“Say to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

The fact that Jesus rode a cult into Jerusalem was a fulfillment of the prophetic words of Zechariah 9:9 about the coming Messiah. Had Jesus not ridden in on a colt (donkey), then Jesus would have failed to provide sufficient proof of His Messiahship.

Said another way, if these standing nearby when the disciples went to get the colt had stopped them, they would have stood in the way of the salvation of all!

In other words, because these unnamed individuals “let them go,” you and I can receive eternity with God because of Jesus!

AMAZING!!

Have you ever just gotten out of the way of the will of God? According to Mark 11, that is SIGNIFICANT!

Maybe you survey your life and feel discouraged that you haven’t accomplished more. Today, take a step and ask God to show you how to step out of His way. The results just may echo in eternity.

Whatever the step, ask God to direct it. Take a moment to take that step. Invite Him to speak. He will.

Life is a long road. Walk it with Jesus. Take a water break… we all get thirsty.
