And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them, so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.
Matthew 15:30-31
The One Step Daily Devotional is intended to provide just one step each day for your journey with God. Every journey requires water breaks. Here is a water break for you.
Maybe you are like me, and you have prayed for someone that you love to be healed. Just yesterday I was reflecting upon a friend of mine that I prayed for. One day she was well; the next day she was in the hospital. I prayed. The next day she was in heaven.
The complexities of explaining situations like this (when we pray for something seemingly righteous and good, and it doesn’t happen as we want) are hard to understand much less explain. Yet, miracles happened in Scripture, and countless witnesses testify that Jesus still does miracles today.*
According to Craig Keener in his work Miracles: The Credibility of The New Testament Accounts, Volume 1, miracle stories include the following common format: the circumstances of the miracle, the miracle, and its confirmation or affect on the witnesses.*
When you think about instances in your life such as weddings, births, happen-stance meetings, avoided accidents, and test results that come back better than expected, how would you share the story? What happened? Why did those experiences feel like a major shift? Who was impacted?
When we sit and think for a moment about the events in our life that changed everything and impacted those around us, we might realized that we have experienced more miracles in our lives than we give credit.
While those times that we wanted to see a miracle but did not are exceptionally difficult and sometimes seemingly unexplainable this side of Heaven, miracles still happen. Furthermore, if we pause long enough, we will see that they still happen to us.
Today, take a step.
Maybe today the one step God wants you to take is to believe again that Jesus does miracles.
Whatever the step, ask God to direct it. Take a moment to take that step. Invite Him to speak. He will.
Life is a long road. Walk it with Jesus. Take a water break… we all get thirsty.
